Summer Vacay Dailies: Week 11- the final countdown

Well, tonight we say so long summer vacation and hello to a new school year.  It was a great summer, never long enough, but much appreciated and so valued in the time we were able to spend with our sweet little baby gal before the arrival of her new brother in 8 weeks (give or take some days).

Thursday August 8
We were so productive with having tires replaced on the Durango, grabbing some rock for the flower bed next to the paver sidewalk, pickin'some cherry tomatoes, yelling at our neighbor's obnoxious dog, and purchasing some mums to plant- which conveniently came with a little friend amongst them!  I could be wrong, but my guess was that insect is a katydid...anyone??

 Friday August 9
My August Birchbox arrived early!!  We tackled the actual planting of the flower bed this day, and had another little friend join us- see that cutie patootie white kitty?  I am not a cat person, but kittens are so adorable and he was so well behaved.  Jerod can't stand stray animals and yet they always cuddle up to him!  When Cailyn woke up from her nap she had a chance to play with the kitten and just loved him.  I would have tried to talk Jerod into it if I weren't allergic to cats.  Thankfully, our sweet neighbor and her son had some cat food and took the little guy to the vet (he was really mucus-y) who gave them some meds to cure the rascal's respiratory infection.

 Saturday August 10
I have come to realize that two kids means twice the stuff and we didn't have enough room in the kids' closet to fit all their clothing.  So we bought a new dresser, and....ahhhhhh, it created so much better storage.  We can also double it as a changing table since we never had one with Cailyn!

 Sunday August 11
We met up with Jerod's parents and 3 of his 5 brothers to have lunch in Des Moines.  It was so great to see them and to be able to stop at Sonic for a little pregnancy craving satisfaction via a Cherry Limeade Slushie- YUM!

 Monday August 12
Hobby Lobby had spools of tulle 50% off so I picked up 3 different colors and some elastic and fashioned her a little tutu, which she loves and insisted on wearing to the grocery store that evening over her ladybug dress.  When she's wearing it we often her, "Mommy-Daddy!  I a pin-cess!" (Cue sly little Cailyn smile)  :)

 Tuesday August 13
Since we weren't able to get the Ames wading pool this summer, we decided to let Cailyn run through the sprinkler instead.  She had so much fun, especially when Daddy played with her.  It was a little chilly, and she was shivering with little blue lips, but we had to drag her away!

 Wednesday August 14
For our final day of summer vacation we had a family photo session, which Aunt Amanda so graciously helped out with.  It couldn't have been easy being there with my crabby pregnant self, Jerod the never-ending complainer, and Caliyn the eternal camera-evader, and also having to try to get some good shots in between our bickering.  She took some great shots with our camera, I just wanted to make sure we had a family photo of just the three of us, although it's more like three and a half by now!  We had a special lunch at McDonald's, Cailyn's favorite place to dine- and we didn't even order off the dollar menu either!!  After lunch, girlfriend picked out a Redbox movie to watch after dinner- wouldn't you know...Wreck it Ralph for the third time.  Oh well, I suppose she could have picked something much worse, it's actually a cute movie.  For dessert, we made some brownies in a distant celebration to my little brother's 28th birthday, Happy B-day Bubba!  We love you!

Well folks, until we meet again next summer I will try my darndest to keep this blog up to date at least weekly.  I will also be thinking of some easy DIY projects that could be useful to someone and maybe help us earn a little extra cash while I'm home with the little man on maternity leave.  A nice phone conversation with my Grandma reassured me that it could be possible to supplement a little income doing so- we'll see!  Happy Back to School weeks to everyone!

Mary...
I heart Cherry Limeade at Sonic! You are so lucky and I won't tell my kids you got to go there. That tutu is just so stinkin' cute! And, I LOVE that picture of the three of you. I'm glad to hear your photo session was as challenging as ours. Ha!
